As at the time of writing (Sunday 8th of August) Peter’s last two games have not been published in pgn. As soon as they are I will of course publish them here.
-----
Yesterday’s last game that Peter played in this year’s British Championship ended in a draw. Out of the eleven games Peter played he won three, drew four and lost four. This adds up to a creditable score of five points.
British number one Grandmaster Mickey Adams is the new British Champion with a score of nine and a half points out of eleven and International Master Jovenka Houska is the new British Ladies Champion with a score of six and a half points.
-----
Peter’s ninth round win against Ian Henderson which demonstrates nicely his positional style of play can be seen here.
-----
Peter lost his game in the penultimate 10th round yesterday against Donald Mason and goes into today’s final round with a score of four and a half points.
Peter’s opponent for this final game of this year’s Championship is Gary Senior who used to play for Leeds Polytechnic back in the 70’s in the Leeds Evening League but is now a member of Hendon Chess Club in Golders Green.
-----
Peter won his ninth round game against Ian R. Henderson who is at Leeds University but normally plays for Surbiton Chess Club. This brings Peter back to a fifty per cent score with four and a half points out of a possible nine.
The good news is that because of this win Peter is playing on board 19(and so the game can be viewed live from 2.15pm here), against Donald Mason who is a member of Shirley Chess Club and plays in the 4NCL for Warwickshire Select.
-----
Peter lost his eighth round encounter with International Master Jack Rudd although coming out of the opening with an initiative. Young ones and novices are always instructed to castle in order to make sure that the King is safe and some may wonder why. The game can be seen here.
Peter’s fine positional seventh round win with the Black pieces against Domonic Mackle can be played through here. This is very well played by Peter and I for one will study this game hoping to learn more about positional chess.
-----
After the mid Championship break which took place after Saturday’s sixth round Peter started the second part of the Championship with a win with the Black pieces against Dominic Mackle of Devon’s Newton Abbot Chess Club. Peter is now on a fifty per cent score with 3.5 points out of seven games.
Peter has been rewarded with a round eight pairing against International Master Jack Rudd, who started off the Championship with three points out of three games and then lost on board one to British number one Grandmaster Micky Adams.
Peter is scheduled to play on board 18. Boards 1 - 20 were broadcast live on the web today, so if every thing works fine you should be able to watch Peter’s game live here tomorrow afternoon.
-----
Dominic Mackle, the Treasurer and highest graded player (194 ECF) of Newton Abbot Chess Club, will be Peter’s seventh round opponent in this year’s British Championship. The game kicks off at 2.15 pm and they will meet on board twenty seven.
-----
Those who are wondering what’s going on in the British Championship today - relax - its a rest day. Play resumes tomorrow afternoon with round seven.
Here is Peter’s sixth round game
-----
Peter’s sixth round game against 17 year old David Grant ended in a draw yesterday evening and is now on two and a half points.
-----
Peter’s fifth round game in which he played the Caro-cann defence and had the initiative most of the way through the game until the latter stages can be played by clicking the link below:
Game 9: S. McCullough v Peter board 32 round 5 British Championship 2010 30th of July
-----
Today, Peter is paired against an upcoming 17 year old junior - David Grant from Reigate Grammer School - who is graded 198 ECF!. As well as being a fellow member, along with Yorkshire GM Matthew Turner, of Redhill Chess Club, David is a member of the Successful Sussex Juniors
This should make for an interesting board 26 encounter which starts this afternoon at 2.15pm.
-----
Peter drew his fifth round game earlier this afternoon against Simon McCullough and now has a score of two points out of five. You can now play through Peter’s fourth round game against Grandmaster Keith Arkell by clicking the link below. It seems like Peter was winning out of the opening but could not find the right plan to inflict defeat, whilst GM Arkell defended well in the later middle game, and then took advantage of White not being able to finish the job.
Game 8: Peter v GM K. Arkell board 15 round 4 British Championship 2010 29th of July
-----
After Peter’s second consecutive loss, yesterday, to Grandmaster Keith Arkell ( both to titled players! - One who is playing on top board against Mickey Adams this afternoon) he is paired against Simon McCullough on board 32.
-----
Fide Master Alexi Slavin was Peter’s opponent yesterday. Today Peter is paired against another titled player he has already met in the British Rapidplay Championships, Grandmaster Keith Arkell. In this board 15 encounter Peter has the advantage of having the White pieces.

The photo above shows GM Keith Arkell resigning against Peter at the British Rapidplay Championships
Yesterday’s game in which Peter lost to Russian Fide Master Alexi Slavin can be played through by clicking the link below:
Game 7: FM A. Slavin v Peter board 9 British Championship 2010 28th of July
-----
Unfortunately, in today’s board nine game, Peter could not manage to defend against the highly rated, Russian Fide Master Alexi Slavin’s attack, and so remains on a score of one and a half points after three rounds.
-----
Peter’s second round game against Lateefah Messam-Sparks can be seen by clicking the link below.
Game 6: P. Shaw v Lateefah Messam-Sparks board 17 British Championship 2010 27th of July
-----
Peter managed to win his second round game against Lateefah Messam-Sparks and duly earned himself a place on board nine in the third round of this year’s British Championship. Peter has the Black pieces and his opponent is Russian Fide Master Alexi Slavin graded 2417.
There are five players only who have a perfect two points out of two score. The chasing group with a score of one and a half points among which Peter finds himself consists of 19 players.
---
I have now acquired the pgn of Peter’s first British Championship game. You can play through it by clicking on the link.
Game 5: P. Constantinou v P. Shaw board 20 British Championship 2010 26th of July
----
Whilst we are waiting for the pgn of Peter’s first round game to appear you might like to look at yesterday’s top board ‘miniature’, won by number one seed GM Micky Adams.
R. Eames v M. Adams board 1 British Chess Championship 2010 26th of July
-----
For today’s second round game, Peter has been paired with Lateefah Messam Sparks on board 17. Peter will have the advantage of the White pieces for the first time.
-----
Peter has made a fine start to his 2010 Britsh Championship campaign by drawing with the Black pieces against Fide Master Peter Constantinou, who finished in 7th place last year - one place above Grandmaster Gawain Jones.
The game has not been published as at the time of writing (21.47), but I will endeavor to publish it as soon as possible
-----

Peter’s first round opponent in this year’s British Chess Championship is Fide Master Peter Constantinou who is rated 2302. FM Constantinou is ranked 20th in this year’s Championship and so our Peter has the black pieces on board twenty to start the tournament.
FM Constantinou finished in seventh place in last year’s British Championship - one place above Grandmaster Gawain Jones!
